Council Attendees: Mayor Daniel Schlichting, Jeffrey Amick, Jeffrey Mussman, Kent Shimeall, Suzanne Surface

  1. The Mayor stated that the Infrastructure Committee had completed an application with the Ohio Public Works Commission for funding assistance with upcoming plans to reline a sanitary sewer line shared with the City of Worthington.
  2. Council discussed the possibility of joining a lawsuit on behalf of Ohio municipalities against the state regarding Senate bill 63, which withholds state funding from any municipalities that elect to use ranked choice voting in their local elections. The Mayor spoke with organizers, who mentioned that there has not been much interest in joining the lawsuit from other municipalities and were interested in adding Riverlea as lead plaintiff. Council members are not interested in joining the lawsuit at this time.
  3. The Mayor reported that one of the pumps at the lift station had recently been replaced.
  4. The Mayor reported that William Charles will be stepping down as Street Commissioner as of September 30.
  5. The Planning Commissioner presented a proposal from the Commission for changes to the Village building code. Members discussed some small changes and plan to introduce these changes in an ordinance at the October meeting.
  6. The Mayor is completing a request form for the Franklin County Engineer’s Office to perform a traffic study within the Village.
  7. The Mayor reported that the tree program did not meet its minimum goal of 21 trees in order to receive bulk rates from Peabody Landscaping. The Village is pursuing options to encourage residents to plant trees and assist them in the process.
  8. Shimeall inquired about the Village Marshal position, which is listed in the Village Code, but has been unfilled for several years. The Solicitor will review what is required from the position before Council decides whether or not to attempt to fill the position.
  9. The following expenses were approved:
