As of January 1 there will be three open seats on the Riverlea Village Council: three incumbents (Benevento, Schoenberger, and Slemmer) did not file for re-election. The remaining Council members will vote to fill those seats by appointment at the regular Council meeting on January 16. The term runs through December 31, 2021. Please contact Mayor Eric MacGilvray ([email protected]) or another member of Council if you’re interested in putting yourself forward as a candidate, or if you would like more information about the position.

Get Involved in Village Government

The Village Council is Riverlea's legislative body. It's composed of six members and votes on ordinances, resolutions and financial matters affecting the Village. It's also responsible for appointing and overseeing the work of other Village officials, including the Planning Commissioner, the Street Commissioner, and the Web Manager. The Council meets at 7 pm on the third Monday of each month except for January and February, when meetings fall on the third Tuesday. Special meetings may be called if there's exigent business that can't wait until the next regular meeting. Meetings usually last about 1-2 hours, sometimes a little less and occasionally more. Council members must be eligible to vote in the state of Ohio and must have resided in the Village for at least one year. The salary is $500 per year.

In addition, one seat is opening up on the Riverlea Planning Commission because of an expired term. The Planning Commission is responsible for reviewing proposals for exterior renovations to homes to ensure that they comply with Village ordinances. The Commission has five members and meets at 7:00 pm on the second Monday of each month if there are proposals to consider. Please contact Planning Commissioner Bryce Jacob ([email protected]) if you're interested in putting yourself forward, or if you would like more information about the position.
